The Phenomenology of Meditation (Part One)

Buddhist meditation is the refinement of a sensibility rather the gaining of proficiency in a technique. This sensibility is founded on "embracing dukkha", i.e. the totality of one's existential condition, and then cultivating meditation as (a) embodiment, (b) receptivity and (c) wonderment. Such a sensibility can then be further developed through stillness (samatha) and insight (vipassana).

Deeply opening to the impact of the characteristics of human existence; anicca, anatta and dukkha, supports us to grow in wisdom and brings intimacy and aliveness to our being. From the silence of being flows the essential radiant qualities of mind and heart; love, compassion, joy and equanimity. Our unfolding is held and nurtured by the supporting containers of awakening practice; sila, samadhi and panna.
